We aims to facilitate partnerships between businesses of both nations and to offer them a cooperative business ecosystem with a wide spectrum of growth & development and supporting long-term commercial partnerships for developing strategic relationships between government officials from both the countries. India and UAE have shared trade links through the centuries. As India and UAE strengthened their cooperation, culminating into a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2017, the trade relations also deepened. From US$ 180 million annually in the 1970s, the trade volume increased to US$ 83.65 billion in FY 2023-24. Today, the UAE ranks as India's third-largest trading partner and second largest export destination, with exports over US$ 35.62 billion in FY 2023-24. Meanwhile, India ranks as UAE’s second largest trading partner, with export of over US$ 48 billion in FY 2023-24. The trade basket between the two nations is well diversified, encompassing major products like petroleum products, gems and jewelry, food items, textiles, chemicals and engineering goods. On the other side, though no official figures are available, Indian investments in the UAE are estimated to exceed US$ 85 billion. Many Indian companies have set up manufacturing units, either as joint ventures or in Special Economic Zones, producing cement, building materials, textiles, engineering products, consumer electronics. On 18th February 2022, during the Virtual Summit between Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and H.H. President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al Nahyan, the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) was signed. Additionally, there are ongoing efforts to integrate the instant payment platforms of India (UPI) and the UAE (AANI), and interlink domestic debit cards of India (RuPay) and UAE (JAYWAN). In the last few years, economic and trade relationship between India and UAE has expanded to newer areas such as AI, innovative health care, Renewable Energy, fintech, critical minerals, civil nuclear energy cooperation, etc.

Our Mission

The India-GCC Trade Council is a strategic initiative dedicated to fostering and enhancing trade relations between India and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Our council serves as a bridge to facilitate economic collaboration, investment opportunities, and cultural exchange, aiming to create a prosperous partnership that benefits all member nations.

At a press conference held in Dubai, Advocate Sudhir Babu, a senior lawyer and business leader with over 25 years of experience in Dubai’s legal and business sectors, shared his vision for advancing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) target of $100 billion in non-oil trade between India and the UAE by 2030. “As you know, the non-oil trade target between India and the UAE, as defined by CEPA, is set at $100 billion per year by 2030. I look forward to contributing to this vital objective,” he stated.

Advocate Sudhir Babu also announced plans to focus on key sectors such as information technology, tourism, real estate, education, and the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). He revealed that a dedicated office will be established in Dubai to facilitate trade and business activities between the two nations, in coordination with India’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Economy.

A large business session is planned for the end of 2024 in Dubai, aiming to bring together business leaders and stakeholders to explore new trade opportunities.

We aim to enhance trade and investment flows between India and GCC countries, facilitating joint ventures, partnerships, and collaborations across various sectors including energy, technology, healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

By promoting cultural understanding and people-to-people connections, we strive to strengthen the historical and cultural ties that bind India and the GCC nations. Our initiatives include cultural festivals, academic exchanges, and tourism promotion.

In an increasingly interconnected world, we recognize the importance of strategic cooperation in areas such as security, defense, and sustainable development. The Council works towards fostering dialogues and partnerships that contribute to regional and global stability.
